Karen Valencia Clark-Sheard is an African-American gospel singer who was born in Detroit, Michigan. She is the youngest sibling of six children by Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, gospel pioneer, and Pastor Elbert Clark. She is known for her expertise in vocal melismata, and is often regarded as, "the queen of melismas and vocal acrobats." For years she served up lead vocals with The Clark Sisters. But it wasn't until 1997, that Karen decided to strike out on her own. She released her debut album on Island Black Music and has been a celebrated solo artist in her own right ever since. [1]//The famous well known Clark Sisters consist of Jacky, Denise, Twinkie, Dorinda, and Karen. She started singing with her four sisters when she was a toddler and they were known as the Clark Sisters. While in the group Karen, and her sister Denise, sang soprano on almost all of the group's songs including "Is My Living in Vain", "You Brought the Sunshine" "My Mind is Made Up", and "Jesus is a Love Song". She led such Clark Sister songs as "Endow Me", "Pure Gold" and Hallelujah". For over four decades, the Clark Sisters inspired everyone with their God-given anointing, vocal ability, and powerful ministry. The second eldest sister, who is now Pastor Dr. Denise Clark-Bradford, decided that she would focus more on her family and into other branches of the gospel ministry. The group currently consists of Jacky, Twinkie, Dorinda, and Karen, and they occasionally appear to perform at events.In the 1980s Karen V. Clark wed John Drew Sheard, a minister. Her husband became the senior pastor of Greater Emmanuel Institutional COGIC, a mega-church in the city of Detroit. Karen serves as first lady. Together they have 2 children: Kierra "Kiki" Sheard, who is a successful recording artist in her own right, and John Drew Sheard II (young musician and producer)
