Amarillo Gorillas are a minor league hockey team that is based in Amarillo, Texas. The team is affiliated with the Central Hockey League. The Gorillas began play in the Western Professional Hockey League in 1996 as the Rattlers, the name they would carry until an ownership change in 2002. Oddly, as the Rattlers, the team frequently finished at the bottom of the WPHL and CHL divisions, but they have made the playoffs every year since becoming the Gorillas. Amarillo, TX 11/20/08 - In his first game against his former team, Bill Vandermeer netted the game winner in the third period to lift the Oklahoma City Blazers to victory over the Amarillo Gorillas, 3-2.
