Begun in the late 1950s as an extension of a thesis project on Twain that Holbrook undertook at Dennison College, the show is a medley of excerpts from Mark Twain's writings. Holbrook portrays a 70-year-old Twain, reliving moments from his life and sharing pieces of his writing. Holbrook has a memorized backlog of over fourteen hours of material, from which he chooses about two and a half hours for any given performance, based on his impressions of the audience and the moment.
