The Network is a 6-piece New Wave/Synthpunk band and a rumored side-project of Green Day, who released their debut album Money Money 2020, on the independent record label Adeline Records on September 30, 2003. A re-release of the album, with two bonus tracks, followed in 2004.//The band consists of what is rumoured to be members of the band Green Day and two other musicians. Their stage names are Fink, The Snoo, Van Gough, Captain Underpants, Z, and Balducci(later added). It should be noted that Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's alter ego is supposedly Wilhelm Fink and Green Day drummer Tré Cool went by King Underpants in the band The Lookouts, but is possibly The Snoo in The Network. These are clues as to the identities of the individual members, and it is not known for certain that the members of Green Day are in The Network.Billie Joe Armstrong, along with fans, dismisses Green Day's involvement in The Network as but a rumor, ostensibly for publicity purposes. Although the style of music is different (New Wave as opposed to Green Day's pop-punk style), Armstrong's voice can be unmistakably made out on several Money Money 2020 tracks. The official Network band site claims that "Fink" put out the money for the band himself. In reality, Billie Joe Armstrong fronted the money for the band himself, and they are signed to the record company he co-owns. Neither Fink/Billie Joe's, The Snoo/Tré Cool's, or Balducci/Jason White's Masks fully cover their faces, making it quite easy to discern these three members. Van Gough sings on most Network tracks in a manner similar to that of Mike Dirnt. The two other members of the band could possibly be Reto Peter (suggested to be Captain Underpants), a Swiss producer, and Chris Dugan (suggested to be Z), a sound engineer. This is suggested by an obviously faked press conference seen at the end of the DVD Disease is Punishment where questions by the press are answered in Swiss German by one of the band members. Reto Peter is also the co-producer of the album Money Money 2020 and one of its songs is called "Reto". Chris Dugan is the sound engineer for Money Money 2020 and the mixer for Disease is Punishment. He is also credited with the production of a Green Day B Side 'Governator'. In it, Mike Dirnt sings lead vocals, leading to the possibility that this song emerged from the same sessions as Money Money 2020
