Jaheim Hoagland (born in 1979 in New Brunswick, New Jersey) is an American R&B singer. He was signed to Kaygee (of Naughty by Nature)'s Divine Mill Records in 2000 and released his debut album, Ghetto Love, through the label in 2001. His sophomore effort, Still Ghetto, was released a year later, both to platinum success. Jaheim's third album, Ghetto Classics, was released on February 14, 2006, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200.//Jaheim grew up in the 176 Memorial Parkway Homes public housing project in New Brunswick. Misfortune hit early: his father died in 1981, when he was only two years old. Coming from a musical family helped him overcome the tragedy and the many pitfalls of his environment. His grandfather, Victor Hoagland, sang with many groups, including The Drifters, and their family reunions were big songfests. Singing at family reunions and local talent shows preceded a successful tryout at the Apollo Theater's notoriously tough talent show. The smooth crooner, who has received comparisons to Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross, won the contest three times when he was 15.Two years later, he experienced more tragedy when his mother, Julie, died. But Jaheim kept the faith and became a sensation in New Jersey at talent shows. He made a tape which led to a deal with Divine Mill Records (a division of Warner Brothers) four years later. Two singles, "Could It Be" and "Just In Case", were Billboard chart-toppers. Appearing with Jaheim on his first album was an all-star crew of RL (from Next), Blackstreet, and Darren and Cliff Lightly. Prior to getting his own deal, he worked with Mag supplying backing vocals on the rappers' Hustlaz Heaven CD. His second album, Still Ghetto, was released at the tail end of 2002. After a nearly four-year hiatus, Jaheim returned to the music scene with his highly anticipated LP, Ghetto Classics, released in February 2006, which yielded the hit single "Every Time I Think About Her"
