The Dartmouth Big Green are the athletic teams of Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.The Big Green have won one national football championship, in 1925, although it took them some time to catch up to the football talent of Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, their Ivy League counterparts. In 1948, after the death of their coach Vick Lewis II, Dartmouth thought it was the end of their good football career after Lewis II died in a car crash. But Dartmouth went to their first and only bowl game in 1949, the year after Lewis II died, losing in the Rose Bowl to Harvard 19-6.In 1954, the Ivy League was born. Brown scored the first Ivy League football victory against Rutgers, Yale scored the first basketball victory against Penn, and Dartmouth scored the first Ivy League lacrosse victory against Cornell. Dartmouth football has soared to excellence in the Ivy League, with 17 championships, more than any of the other seven Ivies
