Moenia is a Mexican electronica/synth pop/ambient/alternative rock/Rock en español group, often compared to the best of New Order, Erasure, OMD, The Cure and Depeche Mode. Popular both within the Latin club scene while simultaneously pioneering a darker, more experimental, more poetic side of Spanish-language electronica, Moenia has had three top-20 hits.Although originally comprising Juan Carlos Lozano as lead vocalist on 1997's debut album Moenia and its companion remix album Moenia Mixes, since 1999's Adición has consisted of vocalist Alfonso Pichardo, and keyboardists Jorge Soto and Alejandro Midi Ortega, Moenia has released over ten albums on Universal Latino and RCA Records. Former vocalist Juan Carlos Lozano created in 2001 a new project called Morbo, whose second album electroguitarpop was produced by Phil Vinall, the same producer of the bands Placebo and Radiohead. Several years prior to 1997, Lozano, Pichardo, Soto, and Ortega had originally formed Moenia, although Pichardo eventually left due to the Mexican listening public's initial lack of interest in the electronica scene. When Lozano decided to leave Moenia as vocalist and form the still electronically-oriented but more guitar-centered Morbo, despite the acclaimed success of 1997's Moenia and its subsequent album of remixes (a risky and previously-unheard of novelty in the Mexican music industry), Pichardo reunited with the remaining two of his former bandmates to complete Moenia's line-up, which has remained unchanged since 1999.Moenia's latest album, StereoHits, is a cover of successful 80s and 90s Latin hits such as "En Algun Lugar" by Duncan Dhu, "Tren Al Sur" by Los Prisioneros, "Beber de Tu Sangre" by Los Amantes de Lola, and "Ni Tu Ni Nadie" by Alaska y Dinarama. The album was originally intended to be something that kept fans content while the group worked on their next album but became so popular that it was soon followed by a tour
